Clinical Resource - Educator

Founded in 1871 as the Hebrew Home for Aged and Disabled and previously referred to as the “Jewish Home”, the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL) has a long and storied history of providing high-quality care to the community’s most vulnerable older adults. Guided by the values and principles of the Jewish tradition, our mission is to enrich the lives of older adults from all faiths and backgrounds.

Situated in the city’s Excelsior neighborhood on a state-of-the-art, nine-acre campus, SFCJL includes the 191-unit Frank Residences assisted living and memory care (open since 2020), and the 375-bed Jewish Home and Rehabilitation Center (JHRC), which has the distinction of being the largest, private, nonprofit distinct-part skilled nursing facility in the state of California. Additionally, our campus includes a 12 bed, short-term acute psychiatric unit, unique for its specialization in mental healthcare for older adults. All combined, SFCJL serves a vibrant and diverse population of more than 2,500 patients and residents annually.

Position Overview:

The Clinical Resource/Educator performs a variety of tasks to improve the quality of care for all patients through education and providing clinical expertise resources. The Clinical Resource/Educator coordinates and implements staff education, orientation, and competencies in alignment with regulatory requirements, organizational strategic initiatives, and evidence-based practice within Jewish Home Rehabilitation Center (JHRC) Post-Acute Unit and LTC (as necessary). Specific tasks include providing clinical expertise information to all units, conducting clinical-based needs assessments, developing course/program curriculum, and evaluating and revising clinical training curriculum. In addition, the Clinical Resource/Educator will facilitate staff professional development, participate in applicable committees and workgroups, assist with problem-solving and critical thinking, and serve as resource for other clinical staff as a role model in Post-Acute Care.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate and perform educational activities that promote the competency and development of nursing staff, including orientation, competency validation, remediation, in-service, and continuing education.
  • Ensure delivery of quality and cost-effective patient care per guidelines, standards, or care per facility policies by knowing and understanding specific staff/unit capabilities to ensure correct delegation; and/or assisting with direct patient care by demonstrating clinical competence in area of practice assigned.
  • Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs in response to health care demands, trends, identified learning needs, organizational and clinic goals, quality improvement measures, risk management, regulatory changes, and compliance program.
  • Implement systems to inform and increase staff compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Lead initiative in quality issues and assist staff in prioritization and problem-solving operational concerns.
  • Collaborate with and serve as resource to other disciplines/departments to resolve identified issues/trends.
  • Design educational offerings (courses, simulations, programs) using processes and methodologies that incorporate the principles of adult education and learning styles.
  • Direct the delivery of clinical education for new employee orientation, conducts competency assessments, facilitates ongoing development, and establishes courses and programs based on annual needs assessments and educational compliancy requirements.
  • Facilitate a welcoming, supportive environment to new nurses and certified nursing assistants (CNAs).
  • Coordinate education opportunities to deploy clinical system programs and initiatives, ensuring the adoption of company standards, clinical best practices, and electronic health care record documentation (i.e., new employee orientation, clinical onboarding program, etc.)
  • Deliver education activities that validate, develop, maintain and enhance the knowledge and skills of clinical staff.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with various groups internally and externally, including clinical and support staff, other departments, clinical management, and nurse educators.
  • Promote staff competency and elevate clinical practice to deliver top-quality care.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Current California Registered Nurse (RN) licensure and BSN required. Master's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • At least 5+ years of clinical work experience in acute care hospital environment, preferably Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), or Cardiac Unit.
  • Clinical education experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal/CMS guidelines and regulations preferred
  • Able to demonstrate leadership ability and teaching skills
  • Able to provide direction and coordination for a multi-faceted program, including problem resolution within facility.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills with the capacity to make quick and definitive decisions
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and work on multiple tasks in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline-oriented environment with multiple priorities.
  • Ability to be accurate, concise, and detail-oriented
  • Proficiency in electronic health records software.
  • Computer proficiency including word processing, ability to use email and Internet programs, familiar with computerized data entry
  • Ability to sit and/or work on a computer for long periods
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, residents and family members, and at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Pay Range: 150K -160K DOE
