Nestled in San Francisco's Excelsior neighborhood on a nine-acre campus, the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL) is a center of excellence in providing a continuum of care. This includes the Frank Residences, offering assisted living and memory care services; the Jewish Home and Rehabilitation Center, featuring long-term skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, and an acute psychiatric unit specialized in mental healthcare for older adults over age 55; and the Jewish Home and Senior Living Foundation.
Grounded in the Jewish values of dignity, compassion, and community, the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living, fondly referred to in the past as "the Jewish Home," was founded in 1871. Today, 150 years later, it continues to build upon its legacy of enriching the lives of older adults.
Position Overview:
The Security Manager is responsible for leading and managing the security team to ensure that San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living patients, residents, visitors, staff and property are safe and protected against fire, theft, vandalism, trespassing, or other possible threat.
This position assists with employee training, conducting drills, compliance auditing, and supervising daily security operations. The Safety and Security Manager acts as the Safety Coordinator and provides security and safety-related training for San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living
Security Manager Essential Functions:
- Develops and implements security policies and procedures, staff training, and assures overall safety of patients, residents, visitors, and staff.
- Maintains theft/loss prevention program for patients, residents, visitors, and staff.
- Maintains alert code response protocols for guards in response to emergencies (i.e., threat levels and action plans).
- Supervises all security staff.
- Conducts training for security staff.
- Completes and delivers employee annual performance review for all direct reports, including salary recommendations and performance plans.
- Maintains security staffing schedule.
- Represents Director of Facilities upon request.
- Conducts facility-wide training on security protocols.
- Perform safety rounds to identify potential security and safety risks. Document and escalate any observed safety hazards or policy violations to the appropriate department or authorities.
- Suggest preventive measures and security enhancements to mitigate identified risks effectively.
- Investigate security incidents.
- Serves as a member of the Facility Safety Committee.
- Serves as a member of Facility First Response team.
- Assists in maintaining disaster sheds and disaster cabinet inventory.
- Interviews, trains, develops, and orients new security candidates.
- Ensures Daily Activity Reports (DAR) and Supplemental Security Reports are completed.
- Manages parking vendors and valets for San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living
Safety and Security Training (Direct Reports and All Staff)
Prepares and delivers security and safety training for all departments. Maintains an understanding and updated knowledge on the following topics, providing training directly to all staff, including, but not limited to:
- Active Shooter: CODE Silver
- Bomb Threat: CODE Yellow
- Earthquake: CODE Shake
- Fire: CODE Red
- Hazardous Material: CODE Orange
- Missing Resident: CODE White
- Power Outage: CODE Brown
- Infectious Disease: CODE Special
- Shelter in place
- Flood
- Evacuation and Resident/Staff tracking
- Extreme Weather – Heat or Cold
- Quarterly Fire Drill Training: Demonstrate and teach security and others on the use of the fire extinguisher, exit protocols, etc.
Safety Coordinator
- Completes reports related to alarms, external/internal incidents, and complaints.
- Oversees and implements security surveillance equipment and closed-circuit television systems within the facility.
- Ensures safety protocols are followed and understood by all team members and guests.
- Conducts planning and implementation of physical security systems.
- Oversees and coordinates the Employee/Visitor and Resident badge program. Responsible for making new/replacement badges for the new employees and new residents. Troubleshoots badge access and/or a card reader issue.
- Responsible for programming all the access doors in Frank Residences buildings.
Other Duties:
- Investigates and prepares security briefings and written reports to leadership personnel, as required.
- Develops and maintains relationships with law enforcement, emergency services, and security industry.
- Manages quality control of security operations and ensures security incidents are handled in a comprehensive, diligent, and timely manner.
- Ensures operational readiness of security staff and conducts emergency action drills and training.
- Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, meetings and other relevant training programs.
- Provide support to the Facility team as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED; Associate degree preferred.
- A minimum of two years supervisory experience required.
- Minimum 5-6 years’ experience as a Security Guard/Officer or comparable position.
- Experience in security and emergency management systems, including CCTV cameras, card access, and visitor management systems.
- Experience in coaching and leading a security team.
- Experience working with older adults, preferably in the skilled nursing and senior living environment.
- Ability to build rapport quickly with peers and customers.
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their families, and with staff at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational, and time management skills, and the ability to work independently.
- Proficiency with MS Office, including Outlook,
- Ability to work collaboratively in a highly adaptive and confidential setting.
- Ability to interact in a persuasive, sensitive and professional manner with a wide variety of people.
